Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has told the club’s former manager Roberto Martinez that he will still do business with him, but only if the price is right, Sky Sports reports.

The Spaniard is expected to be announced as Everton’s new manager this week after Whelan had agreed a compensation deal with his counterpart Bell Kenwright.

Talks between Martinez and Everton are reported to be ongoing and Whelan has admitted that he still has a good working and personal relationship with the 39-year-old and will sell to him as long as the price is right.

“If Everton want to sign any of our players for the right amount of money we will consider it,” he said.

“We have to face every single thing that relegation presents us. It is normally the case certain players want to play in the Premier League and I can’t blame them for that.

“Players sign contracts but sometimes one or two want to leave and it is difficult to stop them. Players are players and I believe in freedom in football.

“But we have a lot of players who are loyal to Wigan Athletic so we will just wait and see.”

Whelan is now planning ahead to find the right candidate to replace Martinez.

“There are some very good candidates among them and with the quality that is there it is going to be difficult,” he added.

“It has got to be sorted out over the next nine or 10 days. We have got to get on. The Championship starts sooner than the Premier League and we have got a lot of games.”
