Tottenham are considering a £3.5million bid to activate a release clause in the contract of West Brom defender Jonas Olsson, according to the Daily Star.

The 30-year-old has been a solid and consistent performer for the Baggies since joining the club in 2008, and was linked fairly strongly with a move to Spurs last summer before the club sacked Harry Redknapp.

He has also been linked with Arsenal, but it looks like Tottenham will move for him again, as Andre Villas-Boas is keen to strengthen his defence before next season.

Spurs could find themselves a little short of options at the back, with veteran centre-half William Gallas likely to leave the club, and the continuing injury problems of Younes Kaboul.

Olsson is seen as a good cheap option for the club, and would bring with him a good deal of Premier League experience. He is also said to be considering a move away after West Brom’s poor end-of-season form this year.

He signed a new contract with the club in October, but has expressed his disappointment in the Baggies’ drop from the top four places with just four wins out of 19 in the second half of the season.
