Everton boss Roberto Martinez could be set to miss out on being reunited with his former charge Antolin Alcaraz as two major European clubs are also lining up bids, according to talkSPORT.

The Paraguayan international is out of contract at the DW this summer and is expected to leave for top flight football and Martinez had been hoping to bring the player with him to Goodison Park.

However, Spanish side Malaga and Bundesliga giants Werder Bremen are both thought to be keen on bringing the 30-year-old on board, threatening Everton’s interest.

The player’s agent is in talks with the Merseyside club but it is thought that the two other clubs are willing to offer him a lucrative deal as well as a challenge overseas but so far Alacaraz has kept quiet on the situation as he plays his cards close to his chest.

He spent most of last season out injured as the club enjoyed an FA Cup success as well as suffering relegation to the Championship.

The 6’2 centre back joined the Latics in 2010 from Belgian side Club Bruges and has gone on to make 68 appearances for the club, scoring three goals, however, only eight of those total appearances came last term.
