Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is attracting plenty of interest this summer and another club is set to enter the race to sign him according to the Daily Mirror.

Hull City want to sign a proven goal scorer and manager Steve Bruce has identified Bent as the perfect man to score the goals that will keep the club in the Premier League.

Hull have been linked with several strikers this summer including Celtic’s Gary Hooper but it now appears that Hull will try and pip Newcastle to signing of Bent.

Newcastle have been linked with Bent for most of last season but are reluctant to pay the £6 million asking price because they fear that the striker will have no resale value.

While Hull should be able to pay the transfer fee, the club will expect the striker to take a pay cut as his wages at Villa are currently £70,000 a week.

Bent has had a frustrating season at Villa, not being able to break into the clubs starting line-up with manager Paul Lambert favouring youth over the experience Bent could give.

The striker now looks set to leave Villa Park and Hull are moving into pole position to sign him.
