Turkish side Besiktas have told Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor that they will match his current wages at White Hart Lane according to The Daily Mail.

The Togo striker’s place at Spurs is thought to be under threat after a distinctly underwhelming season.

Adebayor failed to replicate his form from the previous year, when he was playing at Spurs on loan from Manchester City, and that led to some accusations that he only played well when there was a contract to be won.

Spurs boss Andre Vilas-Boas has made bringing in attacking reinforcements his top summer priority and the Portuguese manager has hinted that he could sign more than one striker.

The club have been strongly linked with the signing of Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke and the arrival of the Belgian youngster would almost certainly spell the end for Adebayor.

Adebayor is inclined to reject the offer from Besiktas though as he is keen to play European football next season.

Besiktas are currently facing expulsion from European competition after being found guilty of match-fixing.

The club are awaiting the outcome of the appeal, which they hope would allow them to play in the Europa League.

Should they prove unsuccessful, it may well be that Adebayor decides to wait for an offer from a different club.
