Roberto Martinez set to return to former club for midfielder.
Everton are weighing up a £15 million bid for Wigan’s James McCarthy according to The Express.
The Goodison Park club are currently managed by former Wigan boss Roberto Martinez following the departure of David Moyes to Manchester United.
Martinez knows McCarty well from their time together at the DW Stadium and is keen for the midfielder to follow him to Merseyside.
Martinez is keen to put his own stamp on the Everton team and is looking for the side to play a more fluid brand of football.
The Spanish manager believes McCarthy to be the perfect player to help the team make the transition.
Martinez is also aware of reported interest in Marouane Fellaini from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal.
He is keen to bring in additional options in the middle of the park rather than risk being caught short closer to the end of the transfer window.
Wigan are keen to hold on to McCarthy but know they face an uphill battle to prevent him from leaving the club.
The Latics are desperate to hold on to their best players but are finding it difficult following their relegation from the Premier League.
New Wigan boss Owen Coyle has reportedly accepted McCarthy’s desire to play in the Premier League but is determined for the club to secure the best deal possible for him.
