White Hart Lane side confirm deal to sign Spanish international.
Tottenham have officially confirmed agreement on a deal to sign Valencia forward Roberto Soldado.
The North London side have been tracking the 28 year old for some time and may well have pushed to complete the deal with more urgency given the very real possibility that Gareth Bale is to leave the club in the next few days.
Former Real Madrid man Soldado has seen his career recover after failing to make the grade at the Bernabeu which led to his sale to nearby Getafe which in turn led to a move to Valencia.
Soldado has netted a very impressive 81 goals in 141 appearances since his move to the Mestalla and is said to have cost Tottenham a club record £26m.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas will have been keen to improve his striking options, regardless of what the future holds for Gareth Bale, as Emmanuel Adebayor has proved something of a disaster since converting his loan move to the club into a permanent one. Jermain Defoe also saw a real slump in form in the second half of the last campaign.
Soldado is Tottenham’s third signing of the summer following Brazilian Paulinho and Belgian winger Nacer Chadli who will add further strength to Villas-Boas’s squad, which he in turn will hope gives his side a good chance of securing that all important top four spot.
