#DempseyWatch: Spurs Forward Could Be Off to Everton

Twitter nearly combusted in the early hours of Friday morning, but it would seem that Deuce isn’t headed back to MLS.

Twitter was set ablaze in the early hours of Friday morning following a string of tweets suggesting that US forward Clint Dempsey might be headed off to an MLS side.

After being photographed twice at San Francisco airport a mere two days before his employers Tottenham Hotspur were due to play a high-profile pre-season friendly against AS Monaco, and a tweet from Fox Soccer correspondent Keith Costigan stating that Seattle Sounders were in for Dempsey, the rumour mill shifted into top gear speculating over where the US international’s next destination might be.

The most probable, and logical, answer is one that is much more disappointing for MLS fans.

English newspaper The Metro and US site Bleacher Report both believe that Dempsey is most likely in negotiations with Everton, of the Premier League.

So, it’s not looking like a shock move back to the USA, but for a player of Dempsey’s calibre and form did anyone genuinely believe that to be feasible?

Everton are currently amidst a preseason tour in America, so there’s every chance that Dempsey was taking a flight to meet up with Toffees management.

It is worth noting that, at this stage, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has not said anything with regards to Dempsey’s future. Should Dempsey be absent for Spurs’ game against Monaco on Saturday however, we can only expect speculation to increase.
