Hoops boss Harry Redknapp wants to be reunited with Defoe once again.
QPR manager Harry Redknapp is set to make a sensational move to sign Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe, who could be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane following the arrival of Roberto Soldado, the Daily Mirror reports.
Redknapp hopes to persuade Defoe to drop down a division to the Championship and be the spearhead for his new look attack.
There looks set to be a space in the QPR starting line-up, with Loic Remy set to join Newcastle, so Redknapp will try and bring one of his favourite strikers to Loftus Road to replace the Frenchman.
Redknapp has always admired Defoe and has already signed him twice before while at Portsmouth and then Tottenham.
Speaking before QPR’s first game in the Championship, Redknapp said,”I am going to put together a team that will excite people”.
“I am trying to bring players in who will blow people’s minds. I have got the backing of the board to do that, and we are moving on from last season.”
Redknapp is set to face competition for Defoe’s signature from former QPR manager Mark Hughes, who wants the England striker at his new club, Stoke City.
It will tough for Redknapp to persuade Defoe to drop down a division, especially as the striker still harbours ambitions about playing for England at next summers World Cup.
