Goodison Park side considering offer for highly-rated youngster.
The agent of Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has claimed that Everton are showing strong interest in his client according to The Guardian.
The Belgium defender is expected to have a bright future in the game and has recently been linked with a number of Premier League sides.
Liverpool were thought to have been showing interest in the centre-back at one point before the club opted for former Manchester City and Arsenal defender Kolo Toure.
Norwich City were also linked with a move but it is thought Alderweireld felt his prospects were better served in Amsterdam.
Everton now look set to throw their hat into the ring for the player after reports emerged that the Toffees had sent chief scout Kevin Reeves to run an assessment on Alderweireld during Ajax’s game in the Dutch Super Cup final.
Doubts remain over the future of Johnny Heitinga at Everton, prompting new boss Roberto Martinez to make contingency plans in case the versatile Dutch defender leaves Goodison Park.
Martinez has signed only one defender since arriving at the club this summer, in the shape of Antolín Alcaraz.
Alderweireld presents a particularly interesting prospect, as with just twelve months remaining on his current deal with Ajax, he could be available for a cut-price £6 million fee.
