Tottenham are readying a bid to sign AS Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic as a replacement for Gareth Bale, according to Gazetta dello Sport.

The Bosnian midfielder is being targeted by Spurs if they sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid this summer. Spurs are desperate to reinvest any potential profits from the Gareth Bale transfer this summer to prepare them for a Champions League challenge this season, and are pushing to sign Pjanic before the start of the season, after signing Roberto Soldado from Valencia.

The 23-year old was set to join Arsenal back in the summer of 2011, but joined the Italian side and has flourished in the two seasons he has spent there. The attacking midfielder will replace the creative influence lost by selling Gareth Bale in the midfield areas, strengthening Tottenham’s attacking presence, but will not come cheap.

Bale looks set to leave the club this summer, with Real Madrid prepared to offer £100million for his services. Spurs are hoping to get either Alvaro Morata or Fabio Coentrao in the deal. Spurs are lacking a quality left back, so Coentrao has been tipped to be included in the deal to help persuade Spurs to let their start man go.

Andre Villas-Boas is also keen on signing Fiorentina attacker Adem Ljajic, but face stiff competition from AC Milan who have reportedly offered £8million for his services. The Viola forward has only a year to run on his current deal and will not be renewing.
