Payne was joined by Roma CEO Italo Zanzi, who was decidedly more dignified.
Ringing the opening bell for the New York Stock Exchange is quite a privilege, for some reason.
Countless celebrities have done it in the past, and sports stars are no exception – the list includes US Soccer President Sunil Gulati, NBA star and Vancouver Whitecaps owner Steve Nash, and even Brazil and New York Cosmos legend Carlos Alberto.
Monday saw the turn of Kevin Payne, president of Toronto FC to open trading – albeit at the slightly less glamourous Toronto Stock Exchange.
Payne was joined by AS Roma CEO Italo Zanzi and a host of other corporate figures in ringing the opening bell (they actually use a touchscreen now, but that’s just semantics).
This would all normally be incredibly mundane, were it not for Payne’s very enthusiastic response.
