Premier League clubs have expressed their interest in Brazilian forward Leandro Damiao as Internacional look to cash in on their star striker, but so far no club has managed to impress the forward enough for him to complete a switch according to the Daily Express.

The 24 year-old was set for a move to Italian giants Napoli prior to them signing Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid, which the striker was extremely interested in. Once this deal fell through he was then linked with a move to Russian side Zenit St Petersburg for £21.5million, yet this deal never materialised and Damiao has been stuck in his home country of Brazil all summer.

Leandro’s agent Vinicus Prates has told reporters, “There were negotiations with Napoli, but the inherent difficulties tied in to sponsorship contracts and image rights made it impossible to reach a deal with Aurelio De Laurentiis.”

“The club preferred to turn to Higuain, so now Damiao is working hard with Internacional while he waits for a great proposal from Europe.”

He went on to admit, “He is wanted by several Premier League clubs. Southampton put in a request in the past, but Leandro Damiao has decided to target a more ambitious club. There is nothing concrete with Roma. They are a good side, but there has been no contact.”

Despite admitting so much interest in the star, with the star rejecting the Saints and Napoli snubbing him, there is no concrete offer on the table left for the Brazilian – so he will have to hope Spurs and Roma rekindle their interest.
