Dutchman happy to be in Italy despite Manchester United rumours.
New Roma signing Kevin Strootman has said that he is delighted to now be playing for the club after they were the only ones to show a serious interest in him this summer, Sky Sports reports.
The 23-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, but a deal failed to materialise, whilst interest coming from AC Milan was fleeting at best.
The Dutch international has said that speculation linking him with a move to either of those clubs was just idle paper talk, and that the side from the Italian capital were the only ones to table a serious bid.
“Did Manchester United and AC Milan want me? Only Roma came forward seriously for me and I liked their project,” He told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Rudi Garcia called me and convinced me to make the move, and I’m happy to be here.
“There are so many good players here, as well as the new ones like Maicon, (Mehdi) Benatia and Gervinho.
“I want to prove that I am worth all the money (£15.6 million) that Roma spent on me, and then I want to win something.”
