Richmond Kickers Beat MLS Hopefuls Orlando City SC 2-0 To Win USL Pro

The Kickers will finish top of the table thanks to a first-half double from Matthew Delicate.

In the deciding game of the season, the two teams sat joint at the top of the USL Pro table faced off at Richmond City Stadium.

In the end, it was the Kickers who ran out on top in a 2-0 victory over Orlando City SC. With one game of the season left to play, the result secures the Commissioner’s Cup a week early for Richmond.

It was only right that Richmond Kickers’ all-time leading goalscorer Matthew Delicate should be the one to clinch the title for them, as his two goals within five minutes were enough to secure the three points.

Whilst Orlando fans may be disheartened, they should not put too much emphasis on the result with regards to their MLS hopes. The 2011 champions have comfortably secured a playoff spot, and a crowd of almost 5,000 in attendance was an excellent showing for both sides.

After next week’s matches comes the playoffs. Finishing top means that the Kickers will face the side that finishes 8th. There are currently three possible finishers for that position – either Dayton Dutch Lions, Wilmington Hammerheads or VSI Tampa Bay FC.

As for Orlando City, they will face 7th place. A stern challenge in either Dayton Dutch Lions, Pittsburgh Riverhounds or Los Angeles Blues awaits them.
