St Mary’s side set to break club record signing fee to bring in Italian international.
Southampton are reportedly on the verge of signing Roma forward Pablo Osvaldo according to the Daily Star.
The St Mary’s side have already agreed an €18m (£15m) deal with the Stadio Olimpico side and having initially been snubbed by the Argentine born Italian international this source claims that Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has spoken to the striker on the phone on a number of occasions to convince the 27 year old to move to the South Coast side.
Pochettino is keen to supplement an attack that already possesses England hero Rickie Lambert as well as Jay Rodriguez and playmaker Gaston Ramirez but the Southampton boss seems set to break the Southampton club record signing fee to bring in Osvaldo, who’s days at Roma seem numbered.
New Roma boss Rudi Garcia is said to be open to offloading the former Espanyol man who’s Roma career has been hanging in the balance since he publicly lambasted then boss Aurelio Andreazzoli following his substitution in the Coppa Italia final against Lazio.
Osvaldo has scored 28 goals in 57 appearances for Roma.
