Argentine looking likely to become Spurs’ latest signing.
Representatives of Roma starlet Erik Lamela will reportedly hold talks with Tottenham today over a big-money move to White Hart Lane, according to Football Italia.
The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young players in Serie A, and would be seen as a real statement of ambition from Spurs, as he is likely to cost over £30million.
The Argentine scored 15 goals and provided 6 assists for Roma last season, and has also attracted interest from Chelsea at points this summer, however, he now looks increasingly likely to becoming Andre Villas-Boas’ latest summer signing.
The Portuguese coach has already spent big this summer on the likes of Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Etienne Capoue, in a bid to persuade want-away star Gareth Bale to reject a move to Real Madrid and remain in north London.
Lamela could also be an ideal replacement if Bale does leave, as he is capable of playing in a variety of attacking midfield positions or even as a striker.
It was initially thought that Spurs would not like to go higher than £20million to land Lamela, but they now seem willing to accept Roma’s demands for their star player, who could be the latest to depart after striker Pablo Osvaldo joined Southampton.
Experienced midfielder Daniele De Rossi is also being linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico, with Chelsea keen on securing the services of the Italian.
