Spurs close to deal for Argentine winger.
Tottenham are close to confirming the signing of Argentine starlet Erik Lamela from Roma in a deal worth £30million, according to the London Evening Standard.
The 21-year-old has supposedly arrived in London to finalise terms with the White Hart Lane club, and become their fifth major signing of the summer, taking their total spending to £89million.
Lamela will be seen as an ideal replacement for Gareth Bale, whose move to Real Madrid will also be confirmed once the signing of the talented youngster can be made official.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas will be hoping to avoid any late drama in the deal, as he narrowly lost out to Chelsea for the signing of Willian last week, with the Brazilian making the late decision to move to Stamford Bridge instead of White Hart Lane.
While the loss of Bale will be a blow to Spurs, Lamela is another player with great potential to join the club this summer, following Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue into a squad that looks increasingly likely to mount a serious title challenge this season.
The proposed sale of Bale for what could be over £86million has helped Villas-Boas compete in the transfer market for big-name players, despite a lack of Champions League football currently on offer at the club.
