Toffees to rival Serie A giants for promising midfielder.

Check in to Everton vs Hull City

Everton are set to go head-to-head with Serie A giants Inter Milan for the possible signing of Borussia Monchengladbach youngster Granit Xhaka, according to the Daily Express.

The 21-year-old is an exciting prospect, having moved to the Bundesliga from FC Basel in 2012 for £7.2m, and already gaining as many as 20 caps for the senior Swiss national team.

Both teams were said to have scouts watching Xhaka as he scored for his country in their 2-1 win over Albania on Friday to help them qualify for next summer’s World Cup.

Everton could be in need of a young midfielder of his quality if they lose their own prized asset Ross Barkley this January, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea said to be considering big-money offers for the 19-year-old England international.

However, they will face a strong challenge from Inter Milan, who are one of the biggest names in European football despite their disappointing finish of 9th place in Serie a last term. New manager Walter Mazzarri will be keen to snap up the best young talent and rebuild the struggling team.

Xhaka certainly looks like a player who will continue to attract attention, and would be a great coup by Everton if they can pull it off.
