Goodison Park side target United States international.
Everton are one of a host of clubs considering mounting a January loan bid for Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey according to the Daily Mirror.
The 30 year old American moved back to United States in August to join the Sounders but could be set to make a move back to the Premier League during the three month long MLS season break.
As well as interest from the Toffees former clubs Tottenham and Fulham are both tracking the forward though Everton perhaps have the best knowledge of pulling off such a switch having brought in Landon Donovan on two similar spells back in 2010 and 2012.
Dempsey enjoyed six successful seasons at Fulham, during which time he netted 60 goals in 225 appearances which led to a move from West to North London to join Tottenham where he spent just one season before opting to move to Seattle.
Roberto Martinez has seen his Everton side start the season in solid fashion, losing just once in their opening eight Premier League fixtures.
