Toffees head coach Roberto Martinez is known to be a huge fan of the former England Under-21 international, who he tried to sign while previously in charge of Wigan Athletic, only to fail in his efforts.

However, it is understood that the Spaniard will reignite his longstanding interest in Davies now that the transfer window has finally opened again for business as he looks to add more strength in depth at the back at Goodison Park in the second half of this season.

But the chances of the high-flying Merseyside giants being able to pull off a deal for the 28-year-old this month now appear to be slim at best, with Tigers manager Steve Bruce understood to be determined to keep hold of a player who has been an absolute revelation since first arriving in the north east from Birmingham City last June on a three-year deal for a fee of just £2.25m.
