Spurs boss Sherwood slated his current batch for not giving their all…
Find out who are the most valuable players in world football.
Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has split the opinion of sports journalists with his comments today, in which he lamented his current squad, claiming that many of them are playing for their futures, the Daily Mail reports.
“A lot of the players here are playing for their futures. They know that now,” Sherwood began.
‘They have to show they want to play for a giant of a club like Tottenham. Whether there’s an overhaul in the squad is for me to decide. But there will be changes. I want players here to prove they want to be here.
“I hope my comments can have a galvanising effect,” he continued.
“They’re all men, they know I’m saying it from the heart, not from a script, but on impulse. I shoot from the hip.”
Tottenham take on Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday, and face an enormous clash with north London rivals Arsenal at the weekend.
A defeat at White Hart Lane in the Premier League would effectively end Spurs’ hopes of a top four finish, and while Sherwood’s comments could force his side to react from their miserable performance away to Chelsea last weekend, it could similarly irritate some members of the squad.
Here’s how some of the country’s more prominent football journalists reacted to the controversial comments.

@GaryLineker @_PaulHayward Sherwood will either succeed as Spurs boss being himself or fail being himself. I admire his approach.

Possible dig at Mourinho from Sherwood too: “I’m saying it from the heart, not from a script. I’m not an actor, I work on impulse.” — Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) March 12, 2014
Fascinating, honest but ultimately, I feel, unwise public condemnation of his own players by Tim Sherwood. Private, always the best way. — Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 12, 2014
“I’m a manager, not a babysitter,” says Tim Sherwood. But they still might call him a cab.

You have to admire Sherwood’s “shape up or ship out” frankness. May upset some #thfc players, may eventually cost him his job but he’s right
