Napoli are ready to offer Tottenham target Valon Behrami in exchange for Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen according to Football Direct News.

The former Ajax man has had an up and down campaign this term and his side’s failure to secure a top four finish may well lead to the 26 year old pressing for a White Hart Lane exit.

San Paolo boss Rafa Benitez is keen to strengthen his back-line and is willing to offer Swiss utility man Behrami to help secure Vertonghen.

Tottenham may well feel that such an offer undervalues Vertonghen, who cost the north London club £12m back in the summer of 2012 and chairman Daniel Levy may well request a cash bonus on top of Behrami in order for any such swap deal to come to fruition.

Napoli sit in third spot, some nine points clear of fourth placed Fiorentina, so have all but secured a Champions League berth for next term which will certainly aid a move to tempt Vertonghen, who can play at both right-back and in the centre of defence.

Behrami has previously played in the Premier League with West Ham and is adept a filling various roles across the midfeld as well as as a full-back if necessary.
