Tottenham will use loaned out German Lewis Holtby as bait as they pursue highly rated Borussia Monchengladbach forward Max Kruse according to Football Direct News.

The White Hart Lane side are said to have been scouting 26 year old Kruse for some time and the in-form German international may well be tempted by a move to the north London side who are in urgent need of effective attacking additions.

Holtby has shown glimpses of his obvious quality during his loan stint at Fulham but a permanent move to Craven Cottage is probably off the table now that they have suffered relegation to the Premier League and a return to Tottenham seems unlikely given the number of midfielders the club current possess and therefore a move back to the Bundesliga could well suit the youngster.

The chances of Kruse considering a move to Spurs will increase significantly if his side fail to secure a Champions League berth with the Stadion im Borussia-Park side currently sitting in sixth place some three points off fourth with one game left to play.

Kruse has scored 12 goals in 33 appearances whilst also being one of the Bundesliga’s leading assist makers. The former Freiburg man is likely to be part of Joachim Low’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.
