The Brazilian shot stopper, nicknamed The Octopus, played a big role in helping get the club to the Champions League during the 2009/10 season, but struggled to keep his place in the squad following the arrival of Brad Friedel and Hugo Lloris.
But Gomes never once spoke out about his discontent at his position as third choice keeper, letting his professionalism do the talking, and he is now free to seek a new club elsewhere.
And teammate Sandro took to Instagram to express his delight at playing alongside the custodian, and wished him the best for the future.
“I would like to thank this amazing professional, @hdgomes but most important, this amazing man for everything he has done for me during these 4 years! Today it was his last day, but I’ve gained a brother for the rest of my life! I will truly miss you… Obrigado IRMÃO” he said.
