Championship side Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Grant Hall on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old, who moved to White Hart Lane from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2012, has yet to play a first-team match for Spurs.

He spent the past season on loan at Swindon Town, playing 34 games for the Robins, who finished eighth in League One.

Birmingham will be hoping that Hall will be able to strengthen their leaky backline, which conceded 74 goals in 46 league games this term.

Only Yeovil Town and Barnsley, both of whom were relegated, shipped more Championship goals than the Blues.

Birmingham were very nearly relegated themselves, but they fought back from 2-0 down to secure a dramatic final-day draw at Bolton Wanderers, scoring a stoppage-time equaliser to beat the drop on goal difference.

Hall began his youth career at Brighton, but the South Coast club released him at the age of 16.

He dropped into non-league football with Lewes, where a string of impressive displays convinced Brighton to take him back in 2009.

Brighton offered him a new three-year contract in 2012, but he turned it down in favour of a move to Spurs.
