Uruguay will be without star striker Luis Suarez as they kick off their World Cup campaign against Costa Rica in Group D.

The Liverpool forward will no doubt be a big loss for the South Americans in these crucial early games, though they still hope to welcome him back to action later in this summer’s tournament. For now, however, the focus will be on Paris Saint-Germain front-man Edinson Cavani to provide some inspiration as they look to get off to a winning start in Brazil.

There is another Premier League connection as young Arsenal forward Joel Campbell is likely to start for Costa Rica this evening, and he will have plenty to prove to those watching after spending the last three seasons out on loan from the north London giants.

With England and Italy set to take points off each other in the later kickoff, it is vital for two-time World Cup winners Uruguay to pick up three points in what will be seen as the more winnable fixture of the group, as they will no doubt face a tight race in their quest to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. Still, with other big names such as Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin and former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan in their ranks, they will feel they can progress far this year if they do get through to the next round.
