There is only one topic to sink our teeth into ahead of tonight’s all-South American battle between Colombia and Uruguay in the last sixteen of the World Cup – the bizarre biting behaviour of Luis Suarez.

The undoubted star of the Uruguay team is banned for the match, a decision that has enraged the Uruguayans, with manager Oscar Tabarez giving a bizarre monologue at the team’s pre-match press conference in an attempt to build a siege mentality.

Uruguay have look an immeasurably inferior team without Suarez, beaten 3-1 by Costa Rica in their opening game when the Liverpool star missed out through injury, with Diego Cavani and Edinson Cavani struggling to fill the void.

Colombia, by contrast, have had a wonderful World Cup so far, breezing through Group C with three wins out of three under experienced manager Jose Pekerman.

In James Rodriguez they also have one of the most in-form stars of the World Cup constellation, the AS Monaco playmaker having scored in each of his team’s three matches so far.

The big decision for Pekerman will have to be made in attack, where he must choose between regular striker Teo Gutierrez and FC Porto’s Jackson Martinez, who scored twice against Japan in their final group game.

With this colossal South American battle taking place in the continent’s spiritual home of football, the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, it is sure to be one of the tournament’s most exciting match-ups so far.
