A top target for Liverpool, Tottenham have also been linked with a move for impressive Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren, who enjoyed a superb first campaign in the Premier League after moving to the St Mary’s Stadium from Lyon last summer. The Croatian international would certainly be a big improvement on some of Spurs’ current options in defence, with the likes of Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghen putting in some below-par displays in a number of big games that ended in heavy defeats in 2013/14. Lovren may be favouring a move to Anfield, but if Tottenham can win the race for his signature, they could be landing themselves a defender of real quality to help them tighten up at the back in the crucial matches.
