Everton have enjoyed a fantastic summer so far, with more good news for Toffees fans breaking this afternoon, as young defender John Stones has signed a new five-year deal at Goodison Park, as confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account:

Stones enjoyed a superb breakthrough season for Everton last year, with his performances either in the centre of defence or at right back even earning the former Barnsley trainee a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup, albeit as one of Roy Hodgson’s standby players.

With Romelu Lukaku, Muhamed Besic, Gareth Barry and Brendan Galloway already having signed for manager Roberto Martinez this season, as well as vital right back Seamus Coleman also signing a new five-year deal, it has been an extremely positive summer for Everton.

Tying down Stones will only add to the feelgood factor at Goodison Park ahead of the season kicking off in just over seven days’ time, with Stones likely to be a key part of the defence that Martinez hopes will help his team to break into the top four.
