Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major blow in their efforts to sign PSV winger Memphis Depay, with the Daily Mail reporting that Nacer Chadli has rejected an offer to move in the other direction as part of a proposed swap deal.
Spurs had been keen to bring in Depay whilst offloading Chadli to lower his transfer fee, but now face the prospect of paying a full cash deal for the highly-rated 20-year-old, who has also been linked with Manchester United at points this summer.
Chadli arrived at White Hart Lane last summer and has disappointed in his time with the club so far, but the former FC Twente man has rejected an opportunity to return to the Eredivisie as a makeweight in this deal.
Depay caught the eye for the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup, following on from some strong performances in the Dutch top flight for his club, whom he recently admitted he would be keen to leave.
However, his move to Tottenham could now be in doubt as it remains to be seen if Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be willing to pay up to bring this attacking talent to north London this summer.
