Goodison Park side chase former Chelsea man.
Everton are in talks to sign former Chelsea forward after Liverpool pulled out of a move to bring in the veteran attacker according to the Sunday Mirror.
Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers had been keen on the 33 year old but the player’s £100k a week wage demands, as well as a two year deal, but that deal is now off the table which could allow Roberto Martinez a chance to land the three time Champions League winner.
Martinez wants to bring in Eto’o to support club record signing Romelu Lukaku but one wonders if the Goodison Park side are in a position to foot the bill for the Cameroon international.
Any move of this nature would make Eto’o the club’s best paid player though a move to Qatar seems more likely, with Eto’o able to command a £7m a season deal.
However by all accounts Eto’o is not ready to leave top level football just yet and could therefore look to negotiate a deal with Everton.
Last term Eto’o impressed at Stamford Bridge, netting nine goals in 16 Premier League starts, and may feel he has a season or two of top level football in him.
Eto’o was at one point one of the most feared finishers in the game and has amassed 303 goals in 608 club appearances including stellar spells at Barcelona and Inter Milan.
