Sunderland have completed an impressive swoop for attacking midfielder Ricky Alvarez, who joins the club on loan from Inter Milan with the view to a £8.5m permanent deal.
The North East club will pay £1m to take the Argentine on loan, and – according to reports in the Daily Mail – the switch is likely to be made next summer if the Black Cats are not relegated.
Alvarez, 26, is a 6ft 2in attacking midfielder and has been capped seven times by Argentina and was part of his country’s World Cup squad in Brazil.
He moved to Inter in 2011 from Vélez Sarsfield, and has since made 90 Serie A appearances, scoring 14 times and making 19 assists. His only international goal came in June, against Slovenia in a friendly.
