Real Madrid eye Alonso replacements in January.
Real Madrid have set their sights on two possible targets to come in in midfield this January after they sold Xabi Alonso late on in the summer transfer window, Fichajes.net reports.
The Spanish giants could face something of a crisis in the defensive midfield area next summer as well, with German international Sami Khedira yet to agree on signing a new contract as he could move for free in a year’s time.
This now looks likely to see Carlo Ancelotti move for either Fredy Guarin of Inter Milan or Luiz Gustavo of Wolfsburg, two players who had looked set for Premier League moves this summer.
Guarin, an experienced Colombian international, was also thought to be on Manchester United‘s radar in recent months, though they struggled to bring in a number of their desired targets in midfield. Meanwhile, Gustavo was linked with a move to Arsenal after they gave up on signing Khedira from Madrid.
Both players could now be on their way to the Bernabeu soon enough, with Real preparing to replace the departing Alonso after his move to Bayern Munich, and with the anticipation that Khedira will soon be on his way out as well.
