The 30 year old is out of contract having been released by Valencia last month, the Mestalla side then drafting in Man City’s Alvaro Negredo on a loan deal, and is also said to be a target for Lisbon giants Benfica.

White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettin is keen to land Jonas to boost his attacking options, perhaps all the more relevant given the poor form shown by Spanish international Roberto Soldado since his move to the north London club last summer, coincidentally also from Valencia.

Jonas spent four seasons at Valencia, scoring a healthy 51 goals in 139 appearances for the La Liga side, and is a versatile performer who could offer options in either an attacking midfield role or in his preferred spot in a central striking role.
