Currently in charge of Serie A side Napoli, Benitez has a proven record in La Liga, having won the Spanish league title twice during his time in charge of Valencia back in the early 00s, and he also tasted European success with the club with a UEFA Cup win.

Benitez then won the Champions League in his first season with Liverpool, inspiring one of the most incredible comebacks and famous finals in the history of the competition, and won the Europa League in a short spell as caretaker boss with Chelsea.

It is thought that the Spaniard would be keen to take the job of one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Real unconvinced by Ancelotti due to some inconsistent recent form in a difficult start to the season.

The Italian tactician, also formerly of Chelsea, led the club to their tenth Champions League success last season, with the Copa del Rey to boot, but is under pressure as his expensively-assembled side have already tasted defeat twice in La Liga this season.
