The 22-year-old has entered the final year of his contract and is said to be weighing up his options before deciding on what his next move will be.

And CaughtOffside understands that Arsene Wenger will look to rekindle his interest in the highly-rated stopper with the hope of securing his signature for the start of next season.

Wenger is a big fan of Schar’s, and will look to make fresh additions to his back line in the new year, but is keen to land the 6’1 star for free if he will be available.

The Gunners boss would also be keen to add Schar to his side over the summer so as to give him a chance to integrate with the rest of the squad properly during the pre-season regime as he fears the player might not be ready for first team action straight away in the new year.

As is the norm with players in the final year of their deals they are allowed to speak to clubs from overseas to wrap up pre-contract agreements.
