This extreme supporter did it for ‘banter.’
One committed Tottenham Hotspur fan has shown his love for the club by changing his name by deed poll to Gary White Hart Lane.
The 55-year-old was called Gary Lane before the change and has revealed that he decided to start the process for ‘banter.’
“I’d been going for so long and my surname was already Lane,” the newly dubbed Mr White Hart Lane told the Surrey Advertiser.
“And I like a bit of banter. I know a lot of people at Spurs, some of them with stalls up there. That’s what happens when you’ve been going for 40 years.
“When I tell people my full name on the phone they can crack up.
“But if it’s an Arsenal or Chelsea fan they can get the hump. And when I told my mum I’d changed it, she nearly fell over.”
There is a more serious note to this decision though as his son died aged just three-years-old and it was a source of distress that he never got to travel with his dad to watch Spurs.
Although raised in London Gary now lives in Knaphill, Surrey and therefore has to make a 116 mile round trip to see his beloved Tottenham.
His house and body also act as a shrines to the North London club, with memorabilia and tattoos adorning them.
