England took 24 minutes to register their first goal against San Marino with Everton defender Phil Jagielka headed home after keeper Aldo Simoncini crashed to the floor for seemingly no reason.

The home side doubled their lead thanks to a penalty from captain Wayne Rooney, who dusted himself down after being kicked in the head to win the spot-kick just before the break.

Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain charged down a defensive clearance before laying on a nice assist for Gunners team-mate Danny Welbeck to extend England’s lead.

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend fired home a fouth from outside the box.

Alessandro Della Valle netted an own goal to complete England’s scoring to make it two wins from two in their opening Euro 2016 qualifiers.
