As the Daily Express explains, Balotelli arrived at Liverpool from Milan in the summer for £16m, but has failed to hit the ground running on his return to the Premier League with just one goal in eight outings.

The striker has earned a reputation as a controversial character, with his first two-and-a-half-year spell in England at Manchester City spoiled with volatility on the field and erratic behaviour off it.

Amelia revealed: “In the locker room it’s almost as if he [Balotelli] weren’t there at all. You have to drag words out of him. During a game he has this almost mocking attitude that makes his team-mates angry, but deep down he’s a good lad.

The 32-year-old also claimed that Balotelli’s team-mates did’t appreciate his reluctance to celebrate after scoring a goal: “You can’t not celebrate after a goal, as that is the most important moment of joy for a player.”
