The hosts have endured a difficult start to their 2014 Primera Division campaign, lying in eleventh place with only fourteen points from eleven games. Independiente have fared significantly better and sit third, five points behind leaders River Plate.
You have to go back to 2011 for the last time the visitors emerged victorious from this fixture, when a second half Martin Benitez goal was enough to claim all three points. The head-to-head record also favours the hosts, with 14 wins in recent times compared to Independiente’s 8.
Despite the recent precedent, Independiente are the more in-form of the two and will be hopeful of coming away from Buenos Aires with a win.
Elsewhere in the Primera Division, Boca Juniors travel to Godoy Cruz, Racing Club welcome Velez Sarsfield, and River Plate host Belgrano.
