The 30 year old moved to AC Milan on a two season loan deal, that would run until the completion of his current Blues contract, though German publication Bild believe that Schalke have requested that Chelsea cancel that deal so they can buy the Spanish international on an outright deal when the transfer window re-opens.

New Schalke boss Roberto di Matteo clearly knows Torres well from his time in charge of Chelsea and now wants the former Liverpool man to lead his attack once more.

Torres has scored one goal in five appearances for his San Siro side and if Chelsea are able to break the agreed temporary move in favour of selling the £50m flop on a permanent basis then one imagines they would jump at the chance to do so.

Schalke have seen success in bringing in household name forwards in recent season with the likes of Raul and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar impressing at the Veltins-Arena and di Matteo may be hopeful Torres could reignite his carer in Germany.
