Only One Clasico Matters This Weekend – And It’s Not In Spain

No, it’s not Real Madrid vs Barcelona. In Mexico, Monterrey host city rivals Tigres UANL this weekend in the Clasico Regiomontano.

With quality severely lacking in Chivas’ squad at the moment, the bitter rivalry between Tigres and Monterrey can claim to be the most exciting derby in Mexico, replacing Guadalajara vs America as the number one.

Games are always feisty. This weekend will be no different – Tigres sit in 4th and Monterrey 5th, with the playoffs meaning both have a real chance of becoming the champions in six weeks.

Recent years have seen a play-off quarter final and a Copa MX quarter-final between the two. Monterrey emerged victorious on both occasions and Tigres will want revenge.

Tigres are the most in-form side in the league having not lost any of their last six games. Monterrey will hope the recently-recovered Humberto Suazo is fit enough to last the full 90, while simultaneously praying for Dorlan Pabon to break his mini-drought.

If you’re new to Mexican football you should watch this game. It will be a classic.
