According to reports on Goal.com, the 24-year-old will require several months of rehab before making back into the first-team picture. The former Leeds man, who suffered the injury earlier this month, will be replaced in the Vila team by Joe Cole.

“Delph has had his operation, it went well and everything is on course,” Lambert explained to the media. “It’s just a matter of getting him to do his rehab and getting him fit.

“I don’t think you can put a timescale on it but he will be out for a few months. It’s not a complicated injury, it’s straightforward. Everything went fine and it is now a case of getting him back.”

The injury to Delph will come as a huge blow to Villa, who have struggled since a blistering start to their Premier League season. They took ten points from their first four games, but have lost their last four matches to fall to twelfth place.
