The Saints are pulling out all the stops to try and keep hold of their star…
Southampton have offered Morgan Schneiderlin a new deal as a last-ditch attempt to try and keep him on the South Coast.
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in the summer, and interest in him is still reportedly high.
But the Daily Mail have reported that Southampton have now offered the Frenchman a new deal that would make him the highest paid player at the club, to try and persuade him to stay.
It was only yesterday that Schneiderlin was quoted as all but confirming a summer move, quoted by the Express as saying “a career passes so quickly and I want to play for a big club.”
The Alsace-born dynamo looked certain to rejoin former boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, and threw a tantrum on social media when Southampton stood their ground. He has since knuckled down and continued last season’s excellent form, making 43 tackles and scoring 3 goals in only 11 Premier League matches so far this term.
The Saints are not short of ambition, and have confounded expectations already this year in surging to the top of the Premier League despite losing Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert in the summer.
But if they manage it, keeping hold of Schneiderlin would be the biggest coup of all.
