After a string of disappointing performances following the FIFA World Cup, Tuesday’s match against the Javier Aguirre-led Japan provides an opportunity for the Socceroos to renew Australia’s hopes ahead of January’s Asian Cup.

Cahill had been in doubt for the clash after picking up a heavy knock to the hip in training on Friday, forcing him to miss the last two sessions.

However the former Everton man rejoined teammates on Monday and was passed fit by coach Ange Postecoglou, who will have a full squad at his disposal.

Japan look likely to play the same side that destroyed Honduras 6-0 last week, minus injured defender Atsuto Uchida.
