Reds losing patience with misfiring new-boy.
Liverpool could be ready to loan back Rickie Lambert to his old club Southampton this January despite only signing him from the Saints this summer, according to the Daily Express.
The veteran England forward was something of a surprise addition to the squad at Anfield this season, arriving in a £4m deal to provide backup for the club’s first-choice attackers.
Still, Lambert has been one of many disappointing signings made by the Reds, failing to register a goal for his new club so far and looking a little out of sorts as he faces losing his place in the England national side.
It seems that Lambert himself may be keen to make the return to Southampton to ensure he is playing more regularly, though with Ronald Koeman bringing in the superb Graziano Pelle upfront this summer, there is no guarantee of games at the St Mary’s Stadium either.
This move would be something of an embarrassment for Liverpool, who are desperate to bring in new signings upfront this January after failing to adequately replace Luis Suarez after his departure to Barcelona.
Mario Balotelli is another new player who has failed to make an impact upfront, and the likes of Jackson Martinez and Saido Berahino are being targeted to add goals to the side.
