The 34-year-old is out of contract at Anfield in the summer after spending his entire career with the Merseyside giants, and may be tempted by a move abroad.

Gerrard is supposedly not keen to play for another Premier League side, and though he would like the chance to stay in Europe, he would consider an offer from the MLS as well.

With former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier working as a sporting director with the New York side, it could be that Gerrard will be persuaded to link up with the Frenchman again.

The two supposedly maintain a good friendship since Houllier’s time in charge of the Reds, when he made the former England international club captain at the age of just 22.

New York Red Bulls are keen to make a big signing as key duo Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill look set to leave the club.
