St Mary’s side target Galatasaray playmaker.
Southampton are reportedly on alert following news that Galatasaray are ready to cash-in on Dutch international Wesley Sneijder according to the Daily Mail.
The south-coast side have suffered a run of defeats of late but still sit in the upper reaches of the Premier League and the presence of Ronald Koeman at the helm may well be the main reason that Sneijder could realistically consider a move to St Mary’s.
The 30 year old former Ajax, Real Madrid and Inter Milan man has impressed since moving to Turkey but his massive £2.5m a year wage packet is apparently one Galatasaray are unable to fork out for and as such the Istanbul based side will look to bank £9m from his sale.
Southampton spent over £50m on new players over the summer but accrued almost £90m from the sale of star performers and as such should have funds to make a strong offer for Sneijder.
A move for Sneijder would prove a huge statement of intent from Southampton and the capture of the 111 cap former Champions League winner is perhaps not entirely implausible.
