The Frenchman, 41, admits he is a fan of the young striker, who is really making a name for himself with some fine goalscoring form this season as a number of Europe’s top clubs start to take notice.

Arsenal are one of the sides mentioned as possible suitors for the prolific 23-year-old, who has 25 goals in just 22 games in all competitions so far this term.

Pires played alongside one of the greatest strikers of the modern era for Arsenal, Thierry Henry, and he believes Lacaztte has all the qualities in his ability and style of play to be a success at the Emirates Stadium.

Although he did not comment on whether or not a move was in the works, he spoke fondly of the player and seemed to recommend him to his old side, saying: “Why not? His characteristics and style of play will suit Arsenal.”
